BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Southern Indiana prosecutors are seeking a special prosecutor to investigate allegations that the county’s treasurer made questionable credit card charges during trips to Indianapolis.
Monroe County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Bob Miller says the office has requested a special prosecutor to Treasurer Cathy Smith’s charges to her county credit card.
County commissioners administrator Angie Chalfant says in a letter to prosecutors that some of the claims submitted by Smith “did not meet the criteria for reimbursement as outlined” in the county’s personnel policy handbook.
The Herald-Times reports (https://bit.ly/QQe5A9 ) Smith’s credit card has been deactivated and the county commissioners have asked her to reimburse the questionable charges.
Smith says her expenses on trips to Indianapolis were for legitimate reasons to attend the Association of Indiana Counties conference.
