SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say the son of an Oregon State Police trooper died and his father was seriously injured in a head-on crash along Highway 22 in Polk County.

State police say preliminary information shows 18-year-old Cayden Fitch of Lincoln City was driving eastbound in a Ford Ranger pickup Friday night when he collided with an SUV after pulling into the westbound lane to pass a vehicle. Fitch died at the scene as did the SUV driver, 69-year-old Michael Moylett of Gresham.

The passengers in the two vehicles - Trooper Bryan Fitch and Moylett’s wife, Estella Moylett - were taken to Salem Hospital.

State police Lt. Gregg Hastings says Fitch works out of the Newport Area Command office and was off-duty while traveling with his son.
