ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - A northern Virginia congressional candidate is hoping to stand out among a sea of contenders with some help from her friend Oprah Winfrey.

Lavern Chatman, former president of the Northern Virginia Urban League, is hosting a fundraiser Saturday night in Crystal City with Oprah as the featured guest.

Chatman is one of 11 contenders in the June 8 Democratic primary to succeed retiring Rep. Jim Moran in Virginia’s 8th District, representing the state’s liberal inner suburbs.

The fundraiser is closed to the press. Chatman’s website says tickets are $150, ranging up to $2,600 for a photo with Oprah herself.

Chatman calls Winfrey a good friend who can give her campaign a boost of momentum.
