The D.C. area’s newest attraction could soon come with liquor.
Owners of National Harbor located south of the Beltway are exploring the possibility of getting a liquor license for the harbor’s new Ferris wheel.
The Washington City Paper reported that organizers are looking to build an exclusive, upgraded gondola car that will cost $50 a ride — far above the normal ticket cost of $15.
The car will feature plush seats and a glass floor, fancier than the wheel’s other 41 gondolas.
“It looks like a Ferrari,” Kent Digby, National Harbor’s senior vice president, told the City Paper.
Visitors who take the decked-out trip will also have their photo taken for free, and organizers are looking into other perks that could be included in the package for the 15 minute Ferris wheel ride.
One of those is alcohol, and if a plan is approved by Prince George’s County lawmakers, riders could get a cocktail to sip while looking out at the view.
“It’s a different level of comfort,” Mr. Digby said of the upgraded gondola.
The Ferris wheel is already looming over visitors to National Harbor, and work crews are attaching the gondola cars now. It’s expected to open in May.
