CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Television reporter Todd Baucher of WTAP-TV was honored Saturday with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the West Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters.
Baucher, an Ohio University graduate, got his start in 1980 at the NBC affiliate in Parkersburg, W.Va., covering the Mid-Ohio Valley. He reported on the 1986 West Virginia State Penitentiary riots, and was on the scene again for the 1994 deadly explosion at Shell Chemical in Belpre, Ohio. He has covered presidential campaigns and a who’s who of politics covering two states for the past 34 years.
“Todd brings the same level of professionalism to the smaller features as he does to the big breaking stories,” said John Fortney, news director of WTAP. “Ever humble, he is today’s multi-media journalist. He is a role model, a shining example from the golden age of broadcast journalism to my staff of young reporters.”
The WVAPBA honored Baucher at the annual Virginias AP Broadcasters Awards luncheon at The Boar’s Head Inn in Charlottesville. The annual meeting recognizes individuals and stations in Virginia and West Virginia for their work in the broadcast industry.
