BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A fugitive drug suspect has turned himself in days after the FBI put his name and picture on billboards in the Buffalo area.

Brian Boetig, special agent in charge of the FBI in Buffalo, credits Friday’s arrest of 33-year-old Oscar Romero to the billboard campaign launched four days earlier.

Digital billboards in Buffalo and Niagara Falls featured a picture of Romero, his name and the words “wanted” and “drug charges” and the FBI’s phone number.

Romero and nine other suspected gang members were indicted by a grand jury a year ago.

Romero pleaded not guilty Friday before a federal judge. He was ordered held pending an April 15 hearing to appoint an attorney.

Lamar Advertising provided the billboards for free as a public service.
