COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Officials with the City of Columbia are offering residents a free chance to learn more about building up their credit and the benefits of investing.

The city’s Community Development Department is putting on a free financial expo at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on Saturday. Other topics including budgeting, how to read a credit report and helping children and teenagers learn about being wise with their money.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of people living below poverty in Columbia is 23.4 percent. That is compared to the statewide rate of 17.6 percent and the national rate of 14.9 percent.
