CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Ethics Commission is allowing the Public Employees Insurance Agency to consider using advertising on a health promotion website to defray its costs.

The commission made the ruling Thursday for the website, which is scheduled to be launched in July.

The Charleston Gazette reports the website and accompanying mobile apps will include health and fitness tips, exercise and cooking videos and a personal health tracking system for participants.

PEIA executive director Ted Cheatham says he wants to explore the possibility of selling ads to defray the program’s $750,000 cost.

Cheatham says the ads would be related to health and fitness, such as from sporting goods stores and fitness centers.

The commission says the website must have a disclaimer that the ads do not constitute an endorsement by PEIA.
