JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Sailings of the Alaska state ferry LeConte have been canceled because of a mechanical problem.

KINY (https://is.gd/sKl6EF) says a problem with the LeConte’s generator knocked it out of service Wednesday.

State transportation spokesman Jeremy Woodrow says engineers are working on a repair plan.

He says the ferry Aurora was sailing from Prince William Sound to Ketchikan Wednesday and was diverted to Juneau. Woodrow says the Aurora is available to fill in for the LeConte because it was scheduled for its annual overhaul and had no bookings.

Passengers have been rebooked on the Aurora for sailings beginning Friday and continuing until the LeConte is repaired. Woodrow says the LeConte repairs are estimated take a week.

The LeConte was temporarily sidelined in January because of problems with the vessel’s port engine.
