If Russia is upset about economic sanctions placed on it after invading Crimea by the international community, its ambassadors aren’t showing it. An unauthenticated conversation between two of them includes a number of jokes about going after California and Miami, Florida.
“We’ve got Crimea, but that’s not [expletive] all folks. In the future we’ll damn well take your Catalonia and Venice, and also Scotland and Alaska,” said Russia’s ambassador to Eritrea, Igor Chubarov, The Guardian reported.
At some point during the expletive-laced conversation, Russia’s ambassador to Zimbabwe and Malawi, Sergei Bakharev, agrees that they should leave the “Baltic [expletive]” alone and perhaps concentrate on some of America’s warmer regions.
“Exactly, Miamiland is [expletive] 95 percent Russian citizens,” said Amb. Chubarov, the Guardian reported. “We have a full right to hold a referendum.”
Mr. Bakharev then said that a referendum should also be held in London and both laugh, the Guardian reported.
The leaked recording comes just a day after Russia’s deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov mocked the Obama administration’s diplomatic efforts, saying that the U.S. should be quiet and “watch some sitcoms on television.”
