LEBANON, Ohio (AP) - Officials in a southwest Ohio city support a plan to name a new stretch of state highway for astronaut Neil Armstrong, who lived in the area after becoming the first man to walk on the moon.
The Dayton Daily News (https://bit.ly/1ltSTdh ) reports the proposal calls for labeling a newly rerouted part of state Route 123 as “Neil Armstrong Way.” The rerouted section near Lebanon is under construction and is expected to be finished this summer or fall.
Lebanon Councilman James Norris says the city council unanimously supports naming the road for Armstrong, though the panel hasn’t officially voted on the matter yet.
Armstrong walked on the moon in July 1969. He died in Cincinnati in August 2012 at age 82.
