CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Charlotte officials say they have found more PCBs were dumped into wastewater in Mecklenburg County between November and March.
Officials said Friday the latest discovery is in addition to the PCBs found in water at a treatment plant in north Charlotte in early February, and ethanol-tainted water found at a south Charlotte treatment plant a few days later.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to arrests in the dumping of the dangerous chemicals.
Utility spokesman Cam Coley says the city’s drinking water supply was not affected. Coley says the chemicals were discovered during testing.
City officials say the treatment plants are good at removing PCBs from wastewater. They say water leaving the plant showed PCB levels were well below government-set guidelines.
