McDonald’s fast-food restaurants have temporarily shut down in Crimea, the second overseas company to close operations in recent days in the tension-filled peninsula.
Executives said the shuttering was due to “manufacturing reasons,” Reuters reported.
McDonald’s has three restaurants in Crimea. While company officials say they hope to reopen soon, they are also offering relocation assistance to workers who want to leave the region and head to Ukraine, Reuters said.
“The company has provided an opportunity to all employees … to transfer to any other McDonald’s restaurants in Ukraine, preserving their positions, salaries and fees and paying to relocate employees and their families,” McDonald’s said in a statement.
The Geneva-based Universal Postal Deutsche Post recently disbanded delivery operations for Crimea, also.
