SEATTLE (AP) - The King County medical examiner’s office has identified a 26-year-old Seattle chef as the man killed after police say he robbed a bank with a fake gun.

The Seattle Times reports (https://is.gd/rDEH1e) Cody Spafford was a sous chef at a Ballard restaurant The Walrus and the Carpenter.

Court records show he had no history of violent crime.

Seattle Police Assistant Chief Paul McDonagh says Detective Jim Rogers shot Spafford after he charged him with a knife. McDonagh says the 15-year veteran of the police department has been involved in two prior on-duty shootings.

Police say Spafford was wearing makeup, a fake nose, a dark wig and woman’s clothing when he used a toy handgun to rob a Wells Fargo branch in the Madison Park neighborhood of Seattle.
