OPINION:
All the apologies in the world will never bring back those who died needlessly because of the faulty ignition switches on General Motors vehicles (“CEO Mary Barra dodges lawmakers’ recall questions,” Web, April 1). The asinine analogy of General Motors CEO Mary Barra — who compared the cost-conscious “old GM” to the post-bankruptcy “new GM,” which focuses on customer safety — is an insult to the American people.
If GM had been focused on customer safety, they would have recalled their vehicles years ago. Worse yet, the GM cover-up had been ongoing while our government granted the automaker a $10.5 billion bailout — taken out of our tax dollars. We the people should demand that GM pays back every red cent. In any case, I can’t help but wonder how their executives sleep at night. No amount of handwashing can ever remove the bloodstains from their hands.
