TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - A Kansas House committee has revised its school funding plan to be more generous in providing aid to local school districts.
The Appropriations Committee approved its revised plan Thursday night on a voice vote. The full House plans to debate the measure Friday.
The plan is designed to satisfy a Kansas Supreme Court ruling last month in an education funding lawsuit. The bill contains an additional $141 million in aid for those districts for the next school year.
The committee had proposed trimming aid to all districts for their transportation programs, online classes and programs for at-risk children. It also had considered reducing payments for teacher pensions.
It backed off almost all of those reductions Thursday night.
However, the plan still trims the budget outside education.
