PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A former national chess master from Providence has been arrested on allegations he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl after meeting her online.

Rhode Island State Police say 60-year-old David Harris was arraigned in District Court and posted $10,000 bail Tuesday. He’s charged with indecent solicitation and third-degree sexual assault.

The girl told authorities she and Harris began communicating on a teenager chat website last year and eventually agreed to meet in person. Authorities allege Harris picked up the girl at her home in Foster and sexually assaulted her at his Providence home.

State police say Harris is director of the Blackstone Chess Club and Academy, which organizes chess tournaments in area schools.

A phone message seeking comment was left for Harris Friday. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
