BEDFORD, Va. (AP) - After months of delay, an April 30 closing date has been set for the sale of the Elks National Home in Bedford.

Mike Williams, owner of English Meadows Senior Living Community in Christiansburg, is buying the nearly 200-acre property from the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks for $4.5 million.

The News & Advance reports (https://bit.ly/PvCk5q ) that Williams had hoped to close the deal on Dec. 31. But because the Elks have owned the site for more than 100 years, a number of detailed procedures were required. For example, buildings had to be measured and a separate entity had to be created to manage on cemetery on the site.

Williams says the Elks home has more than 100 residents. Its capacity is 230.
