PETERSBURG, Ill. (AP) - A collection of classic cars has been destroyed by fire in central Illinois.
The Thursday fire in a metal building on the southern edge of Petersburg destroyed 10 automobiles including a Model A Ford, a 1946 Chevrolet pickup, a 1963 Buick Riviera, two 1962 Chevrolet Impalas and a 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix.
Mike Bell is one of the owners of the building. He says he and his family have been collecting and restoring the vehicles for about 40 years.
Bell says the Pontiac was one of his dad’s favorites. Bell restored it just a few years ago.
Officials say the fire broke out about 11 a.m. in the building along Illinois 97. The highway was closed while firefighters worked.
Petersburg is about 22 miles northwest of Springfield.
