ANTHONY, N.M. (AP) - An arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect wanted in the recent stabbing death of a man in southern New Mexico.

Dona Ana Sheriff’s investigators say they are looking for 19-year-old Mario Soto in the case.

Deputies found the body of 21-year-old Gilberto Wences on April 19.

They say Wences suffered multiple stab wounds while walking home from his job.

He worked at a McDonald’s restaurant just across the state line in Anthony, Texas.

They say Wences’ shift ended at 11 p.m. and he was apparently walking through an alley when an altercation occurred.

Deputies say preliminary evidence shows Wences ran from the suspect and tried to fight back.

He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s officials say a warrant for Soto’s arrest was signed Tuesday.
