PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed a new member to the state’s transportation commission.

The Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that Kathy Zander of Pierre has been chosen to serve a four-year term. She will succeed Sam Tidball who served for 20 years on the commission.

Zander is the executive director of the South Dakota Agri-business Association and the South Dakota Grain and Feed Association in Pierre. She has a degree in agronomy from South Dakota State University.

Transportation Secretary Darin Bergquist says Zander’s understanding of the transportation challenges in a rural state will benefit the commission.

The commission has eight other members.
