WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue University is calling a new exhibit a “gold mine” for students seeking to understand the engineering behind mining.
A tunnel display that is part of the El Aguila Mine Exhibit takes students through the mining process from start to finish. The museum-quality display was dedicated on Tuesday at Purdue’s Deon and Elizabeth Hampton Hall of Engineering.
Samples on display were taken from the El Aguila Mine in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Professor Indrajeet Chaubey with Purdue’s Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences says the exhibit is meant to inspire students to consider studies in geosciences. The display was funded by a $100,000 donation from Purdue alumnus Bill Reid.
