President Obama believes NBA Commissioner Adam Silver “has done the right thing” in banning for life Clippers owner Donald Sterling and fining him $2.5 million for racist comments, the White House said Wednesday.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said Mr. Obama supports the punishment for Mr. Sterling. The president castigated Mr. Sterling on Sunday for making comments to a girlfriend that she shouldn’t bring black friends to games.
