GREECE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve charged a Rochester-area man with second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend’s 17-month-old daughter.

Local media report that Cory Favata was arraigned Tuesday night in Greece Town Court, where he pleaded not guilty in the killing of Rileigh Daniels.

Police say Favata acted recklessly and caused her death, but they’ve not releases details on how she died.

Police say emergency crews were called the evening of April 21 to an apartment in Greece for a report of a child experiencing medical issues. The toddler was taken to a Strong Memorial Hospital, where she died Thursday morning.

Police say the girl’s mother and Favata were home with the child when she suffered the fatal injuries.

Favata is being held without bail in Monroe County Jail.
