HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Marshall University is launching an accelerated program that allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree and a doctor of medicine degree faster.
The Huntington school says the program will allow students to earn the degrees in seven years rather than the traditional eight years.
Officials say the school is dedicated to developing a physician workforce for the region and the program allows it to place students on a fast track to medical education.
The program is open to academically qualified West Virginia students and is accepting applications for the 2015 fall semester.
Students accepted into the program will follow an accelerated undergraduate program in biological sciences. Once they successfully complete their first year of medical school, they will receive their bachelor’s degrees.
