AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Gov. Paul LePage says he will introduce a measure to boost funding for the state’s nursing homes.
The Republican governor said Wednesday that his proposal would use tobacco settlement funds to increase the Medicaid reimbursements for nursing homes this year. A LePage spokesman said the bill would provide $5 million for the more than 100 facilities in the state.
LePage vetoed a bill to fix gaps in the $6.3 billion budget, which would also provide $5 million for nursing home reimbursements in the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2015 and $5 million the following year.
LePage says that nursing homes need the funding now.
He says he will send the bill to the Democratic-led Legislature on Thursday when it returns to take up dozens of vetoed bills.
