ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) - A 52-year-old former Oregon State Police trooper has been arrested on multiple child pornography counts.

The Daily Astorian reports (https://is.gd/QzV0ZN ) that David Charles Corkett was arrested Monday on 27 counts of second-degree encouraging child sex abuse. The newspaper says Corkett’s indictment is sealed until an arraignment set for May 27 in Clatsop County Circuit Court.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says the investigation was coordinated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, with the help of the Mono County, Calif., sheriff’s office.

Mono County sheriff’s Officer Jennifer Hansen says Corkett was believed to be living in the Bridgeport, Calif., area when postal inspectors contacted her office last week for help in serving a warrant on the child pornography charges. Corkett was arrested and extradited to Clatsop County.

The newspaper says Corkett joined the Oregon state police in December 2001 and served in the Astoria Area Command Office. He was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation in October 2012. He resigned in January 2013.
