WASHINGTON (AP) - District of Columbia residents who’ve yet to enroll in a health insurance plan are facing a final deadline.
Wednesday is the last day that people can sign up for insurance without having to pay a tax penalty under the federal health care overhaul.
The initial deadline was March 31, but the district granted two extensions to accommodate people who had started the application process but didn’t finish.
Officials with the city’s health exchange have estimated that thousands of residents still don’t have health coverage. Overall, the district has one of the lowest rates of uninsured in the country.
People can enroll in person on Wednesday at the Dorothy I. Height-Benning Library. They can also enroll online or over the phone.
