PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Two people in Providence have been attacked by what police say is an apparently rabid raccoon that was later tracked down and shot to death.

Police got the first call around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, after a 16-year-old girl was bitten.

The second call came in about an hour later, at 7:25 a.m., from around five blocks away. In that attack, a woman said an animal she couldn’t identify lunged at her face and bit her hand.

Both the teenager and the woman went to hospitals and are being treated for exposure to rabies.

Police say they found the animal later Wednesday morning and killed it.
