CARY, N.C. (AP) - The V Foundation for Cancer Research has named NFL Network President and CEO Steve Bornstein as the chairman of its board.

The foundation that bears the nickname of late North Carolina State basketball coach Jim Valvano says Borstein took over earlier this week.

He replaces Bob Lloyd, who had held the position since 1994.

Bornstein says he is “looking forward to continuing Bob’s great work in carrying on Jimmy V’s legacy.”

Bornstein was an original member of the foundation’s board, and is also the NFL’s executive vice president of media. Before that, he was ESPN’s president and CEO.

When Valvano was diagnosed with cancer in 1992, Bornstein suggested to the coach and his wife that they start the charity.
