SCITUATE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island state trooper who ran to help the injured after last year’s bombings at the Boston Marathon is planning to run again this year, along with 10 fellow troopers.
State Police Capt. Robert Wall says Roupen Bastajian (ROO’-pen bas-TAY-jee-an) plans to run the April 21 marathon.
Bastajian had just completed the marathon last year and was awaiting attention in a medical tent when the bombs went off.
The former Marine ran toward the crowd and started helping. He received the service ribbon from the state police, the department’s highest honor.
Wall says the 10 other troopers who plan to run this month include several who ran in last year’s marathon.
They have raised $12,000 for charity and will present a check Friday to “Cops for Kids with Cancer.”
