New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is no longer the hottest politician in the nation, while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is holding her own and Sen. Elizabeth Warren is gaining some traction, a new Quinnipiac University poll said.
The university’s polling institute asked voters to rate certain politicians along a “feeling thermometer” from 0 to 100. Voters could pass on politicians they didn’t know.
Mr. Christie, a Republican who’s had to bat away questions about a lane-closures scandal near the George Washington Bridge, has dropped to 45.2 degrees — down from 55.5 degrees in January, the poll says.
Mrs. Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee for president in 2016 if she decides to run, came in at 47.8 degrees, with only 1 percent saying they didn’t know enough about her to offer a rating.
She placed second to Ms. Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat rated hottest in the nation at 48.6 degrees. However, 46 percent of voters did not know enough about her to weigh in.
“One of the worst winters in memory leaves New Jersey Gov. Christopher Christie shivering as he drops from hot to chilly in the minds of America’s voters,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. “Secretary Hillary Clinton holds her own as some of the Republicans who topped the National Thermometer in January also cool in the frozen winds of winter. A lot of voters don’t know much about Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, but them that do give her a warm embrace.”
