SAYREVILLE, N.J. (AP) - The legislative committee investigating a traffic jam scandal orchestrated by Gov. Chris Christie’s former associates will meet next week, presumably to vote to subpoena records from the governor’s lawyers.

Committee co-chairman John Wisniewski (wiz-NESS-kee) has said he plans to seek transcripts of interviews conducted by Christie’s lawyers that were used to clear the governor of knowledge of the political payback plot.

Aides to Christie ordered traffic lanes near the George Washington Bridge blocked last September, creating backups in nearby Fort Lee to retaliate against the town’s mayor.

The legislative panel announced its meeting Thursday while Christie was holding a town hall meeting in Sayreville, which is in Wisniewski’s legislative district.

The Democrat did not attend.

The scandal has been a major distraction for Christie, a possible 2016 Republican presidential candidate.
