JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service are urging residents to prepare for the possibility of severe weather through Friday.
The weather service says some severe thunderstorms and hail were expected Wednesday night in northwest Mississippi.
Thursday night through Friday, the weather service says the forecast calls for strong tornadoes, damaging straight-line winds, heavy rainfall and hail in much of north Mississippi.
MEMA executive director Robert Latham says because the storm system is coming in overnight event, residents should expect to receive warnings.
Latham says the weather service expects the storms may linger in areas for longer than normal, resulting in multiple episodes of severe storms and also causing heavy rainfall and flooding.
Rain and some thunderstorms are also in the forecast for central and southern Mississippi.
