Alex Trebek just wanted to make some small talk with “Jeopardy!” contestants on Wednesday, but instead he found himself in an awkward encounter over sweatshop labor in the U.S. and around the world.
After Mr. Trebek asked Tom Cavanaugh what he would do with $1 million, the guest began to talk about a documentary he’d like to make on child labor, Mediaite reported.
“[My film will be about] sweatshop labor in our country and around the world,” said Mr. Cavanaugh. “So I went to Bangladesh about 10 years ago and toured a garment factory and I thought, ’What if I saw a shirt that I was wearing being made by these people’? So it’s to try and put a face on who makes our clothes. Maybe you can find the names of the 8-year-olds who made your fancy suit there, Alex. What? Was that a low blow? Was that a low blow?”
The audience collectively went “Ohhh!”, but the “Jeopardy!” host handled it with poise, saying to the woman next to him, “Give him a shot.”
