ATLANTA (AP) - A Georgia Bureau of Investigation probe into the Fulton County District Attorney’s spending habits has cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Paul Howard became the target of an investigation after local media outlets reported that he paid for galas, dinners, rib eye steaks and more with thousands of dollars civil forfeiture money - proceeds from criminal activity that are supposed to be used for law enforcement-related purposes.
Howard told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (https://bit.ly/1fCREXU ) on Thursday that he was pleased, but not surprised by the GBI finding that the expenses were legal.
Howard was investigated along with Douglas County District Attorney David McDade, who announced his retirement earlier this week. McDade won’t face prosecution and has promised to write the county a $4,000 personal check to cover the expenses in question.
