WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) - The Pawcatuck River in Washington County continues to be above flood stage, and the National Weather Service says some minor flooding could take time to recede.

The weather service said Thursday that a flood warning for the river continues, and that it is not expected to go below flood stage until Friday morning at the earliest.

The river was reportedly at 8.2 feet around Westerly at 11 a.m. Flood stage is 7 feet. The high waters can cause minor flooding in low-lying areas of Westerly and Hopkinton.

Further east, at Wood River Junction in Richmond, flood stage is 5 feet, and the level was measured at 5.8 feet as of 10:45 a.m.
