CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago alderman wants to limit the size of the city’s Segway tours, say the large rolling tour groups are monopolizing sidewalks and causing conflicts with pedestrians.

Alderman Brendan Reilly says the motorized, two-wheeled devices can cause problems when tour groups explore the city with as many as 30 riders.

The Chicago Sun-Times report (https://bit.ly/1hDZzok ) Reilly’s proposal would limit the groups to no more than eight Segways. He also wants to cap their speed to 8 mph.

Reilly says there’s been “all sorts of pedestrian versus Segway conflicts.” And he says there’s been “near-misses” between the riders and pedestrians.

If the regulations are approved, tour groups - not tourists - could face fines up to $200.
