CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The West Virginia Supreme Court is denying a stay of extradition for a man wanted for questioning related to three unsolved slayings in Alexandria, Va.
A West Virginia judge last week ordered 53-year-old Charles Severance extradited to Loudoun County, Va., where a warrant has been issued on an unrelated firearms charge.
The Supreme Court denied Severance’s appeal for a stay Tuesday.
Severance’s lawyer has argued that the firearms warrant is a sham, and a pretext to hold him related to unsolved Alexandria killings despite a lack of evidence.
Alexandria Police haven’t named Severance a suspect in any of three fatal shootings, which occurred between 2003 and this February.
A Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman says the office has a 10-day window to pick up Severance and bring him to Virginia.
