SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Philanthropist Juanita Hammons, wife of Springfield businessman and hotel developer John Q. Hammons, has died at a nursing home in Springfield. She was 96.
The death was announced Tuesday by the publicity firm for John Q. Hammons Industries. The firm said she died Tuesday at the Elfindale Manor, where she had lived since 2008.
Hammons’ husband, who died last May, developed more than 200 hotels nationwide, along with other ventures such as golf courses, restaurants and convention centers.
Juanita Hammons and her husband donated millions of dollars to arts, sports, education and health care. The Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts at Missouri State University was named for her. She also was involved in numerous civic and volunteer organizations.
Funeral arrangements are still pending.
