DETROIT (AP) - City officials are blaming damage from strong winds that swept through Detroit on a power outage that closed some schools and darkened traffic signals.

The mayor’s office says the Public Lighting Department should have electricity restored by Tuesday night. The outages are across Detroit’s west side.

Officials warn that the chance of more storms could slow restoration work.

The Detroit Public Schools closed four schools Tuesday and eight others were shutting early for the day due to power problems.

DTE Energy Co. says about 10,000 utility customers scattered throughout southeastern Michigan are without power due to Tuesday’s storms.
