A soldier at Fort Benning, Ga., in the midst of an overnight march with his fellow troops began vomiting and collapsed, and later died at the hospital.
The soldier’s cause of death is being investigated, the Army Times reported.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported his name as Pvt. Aurek Rardin, a National Guards member from Tennessee, who was assigned to the 198th Infantry Brigade. He was taking part in basic training exercises and an overnight “ruck march” when he threw up and lost his pulse, medical authorities reported to the newspaper.
Officials were able to revive him briefly at a military facility and then transfer him to St. Francis Hospital in Columbus. He was pronounced dead there on Saturday morning, said Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan, in the media reports.
