LOS ANGELES (AP) - What was planned as a protest of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s racist remarks has turned into a quiet celebration.

Only a few dozen sign-carrying demonstrators gathered outside LA’s Staples Center before Tuesday’s Clippers game against the Golden State Warriors.

Most expressed joy upon learning that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had banned Sterling from professional basketball for life.

They chanted “Hey hey, ho ho, Donald Sterling has got to go.”

Others held signs thanking corporate sponsors for announcing they would boycott the team after Sterling was recorded saying he didn’t want black people at Clippers games.

One man wore a T-shirt with lettering on the front proclaiming, “I Love My LA Clippers But … “

The back showed Sterling’s photo accompanied by an obscene hand gesture.
