OCALA, Fla. (AP) - An Ocala man is accused of beating and stabbing his girlfriend’s dog.

The Ocala Star-Banner (https://bit.ly/1h9i54S ) reports the American boxer/Labrador mix suffered a skull fracture and was stabbed in the head three times on Sunday afternoon. Forty-nine-year-old Steven Scott Fleming is charged with aggravated animal cruelty and is being held without bail on a violation of probation charge.

Neighbors told police Fleming was yelling for his girlfriend to let him in the house. A short time later they heard the dog crying. Arriving officers saw Fleming walking away from the home and asked him to stop. He ran but officers caught up with him.

The dog is being treated by the county’s animal services.

Police were initially concerned about Fleming’s girlfriend but later found her passed out under a tree.
