For the second time in a month, Pyongyang military authorities have fired off shots near a disputed water border with South Korea, claiming the activity was related to drills and was no cause for concern.
No shells fell on South Korean territory — but they came close, BBC reported.
“The shells fell in waters about [2 miles] north of the Northern Limit Line,” a spokesman for the South’s Joint Chiefs of Staff told Yonhap News. “The South Korean military is currently monitoring North Korean artillery units, while maintaining high military readiness.”
A few weeks ago, Pyongyang shot off some rounds near the maritime line, sparking a brief exchange of fire with South Korea, BBC reported. This time, the South declined to fire back, BBC said.
