EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry says a financial services company will receive a $1.15 million investment from the Texas Enterprise Fund to create 300 jobs at an information technology support and contact center in West Texas.

In a statement distributed Tuesday, Perry’s office says part of the deal is that the Prudential Financial will hire veterans or their relatives at the new center in El Paso.

In a separate statement, El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser says the new center will generate jobs with an average pay of $35,000 a year and that it is misleading to compare the new facility with a call center because it will require highly skilled workers.

The TEF was created in 2003 by the Legislature and has invested more than $560 million to attract 74,800 jobs.
