MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) - Utilities say high winds moving across the state knocked out power to hundreds of customers in western and northern Michigan, while about 10,000 in and around Detroit were without electricity.
The Upper Peninsula Power Co. tells The Mining Journal of Marquette that high winds were a factor in outages affecting more than 900 customers, mostly in the Iron River and Escanaba areas.
Consumers Energy says more than 600 of its customers were without electrical service on Tuesday morning and the Traverse City Record-Eagle reports nearly 100 Cherryland Electric Cooperative members were without power.
DTE Energy reports that about 10,000 homes and businesses in southeastern Michigan lost power due to the storms. Some Detroit schools without electricity were closed and others ended classes early.
