DETROIT (AP) - The head of the FBI has met with agents and local law enforcers during a visit to Detroit.

James Comey (KO’-me) says he’s trying to get to dozens of offices across the country in the first year of his 10-year term as the country’s top cop. He told reporters Tuesday that he found a “fired-up bunch” in Detroit.

Comey says the FBI’s priority is to combat terrorism. He says the Detroit area has violent crime, but he doesn’t find it unique when compared to other large metro areas.

Comey declined to comment on a U.S. Supreme Court case Tuesday about the ability to search cellphones without a warrant.

He says people “should be suspicious of government power.” But Comey says he’s proud of how the FBI does its work.
