The European Union has named 15 new targets of sanctions over the ongoing Ukraine crisis, including high-ranking military officials and intelligence agents.
Among the names: Gen. Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian General Staff, and Lt. Gen. Igor Sergun, the assumed head of Russia’s military intelligence, the GRU, The Associated Press reported. Also named were Russia’s deputy prime minister, Dmitry Kozak, and a couple pro-Russian separatist leaders, AP said.
The new list — which comes on the heels of a U.S. broadening of sanctions to seven more Russian officials and 17 companies — brings the total that the EU has sanctioned to 48.
