ROLAND, Okla. (AP) - The Cherokee Nation has broken ground on a new $80 million casino and hotel in eastern Oklahoma.

The new 170,000-square-foot Cherokee Casino & Hotel in Roland will offer 850 electronic games, table games and a private poker room. A six-story hotel and convention space as well as a cafe and buffet will also be built.

The facility will replace the existing Cherokee Casino Roland. The Cherokee Nation says the new facility will bring more than 100 jobs to the region.

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker said in a statement that the purpose of the tribe moving from bingo to gaming was to create jobs. He says casino profits are going directly to improving health care for tribal members.
